A MUM who defied the odds by becoming pregnant with her third set of twins has given birth to girls.
Karen Rodger (41) and husband Colin (44) from Renfrewshire, Scotland, were "over the moon" to welcome Rowan and Isla into their family at a Glasgow hospital.
The girls, who are not identical, were delivered by c-section with Rowan arriving first weighing 5lbs 8oz followed two minutes later by Isla weighing 6lbs.
The couple already have four boys, Lewis and Kyle who are 14 and Finn and Jude who are 12, and were told it was a 500,000-1 chance that Mrs Rodger's third pregnancy would be twins.
"I just could not believe it. It never crossed my mind that it would be twins again. I'm absolutely over the moon it's girls it's a good journey ahead."
And spare a thought for a 23-year-old Czech woman who has given birth to quintuplets for the first time in the Czech Republic.
Four boys – Deniel, Michael, Alex and Martin – and a girl – Terezka – were born by c-section yesterday.
Alexandra Kinova and her five babies have been placed in an intensive care unit. The babies, who were naturally conceived, have a 95pc chance of growing up healthy.
