Profits lift off after Aer Lingus cuts costs

AER Lingus has reported quarterly operating profits of €94.6m -- a 19.4pc increase on the same period last year.

The company said today that performance had been "strong" over the crucial summer months -- with revenues from July to September rising to €435.8m.

Fare revenues on short haul flights increased by 7.6pc to €268.3m with the company also reporting modest revenue increases on long haul trips.

In an interim management statement, The company said the performance was due to commercial, operational and cost reductions taken since 2009.

And it said that it expects its full year operating results would be at the upper end of the range of current market expectations.
