Probe into shop blaze as three firefighters left injured

Gardai are continuing to investigate the cause of the blaze that ripped through the vacant Chartbusters video store in Stillorgan.

The local Mill House pub, as well as two restaurants in the shopping complex, had to be evacuated on Friday night as the flames gutted the premises.

Three firemen who were among the first on the scene on Lower Kilmacud Road were treated for burns in St James's hospital.

At one stage, 50 fire brigade personnel, eight fire tenders backed up by water tankers and platform ladders were on site in the battle to contain the flames.

A fire brigade spokesman told the Herald that reduced water pressure in the mains caused by water conservation measures meant that the fire fighters had to bring in two water tankers to supplement their supply in fighting the fire.

Gardai took over the scene at around 2.30am on Saturday after the fire was brought under control.
