Probe into house fire that killed a doctor

GARDAI are investigating the circumstances surrounding a house fire which claimed the life of a popular doctor in west Dublin.

Dr John Corish (50) tragically died in Clonee, Co Dublin, on New Year's Eve.

The blaze broke out at about 9pm at a property in Hunters Run.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious but gardai are investigating the cause of the fire, which will be discussed at the victim's inquest.

He was alone in the house at the time of the fire.

Dr Corish acted as a General Practitioner at the Maynooth Medical Centre on the Main Street in Maynooth, and was well known throughout the community.

He left behind his wife Eithne and daughter Emma, his family and friends and hundreds of his loyal patients.

He was laid to rest on Tuesday morning surrounded by his family.

Originally from the Strawhill Villas on the Athy Road just outside Carlow town, Dr Corish contested the 2007 general election in North Kildare.
