Prayers and processions mark Good Friday ritual

COMMUNITIES across Dublin marked Good Friday with Easter processions and the stations of the cross.

In Ballymun, residents took part in an Easter service that proceeded through a local shopping centre.

In Clontarf, a similar service was held to remember the trial and crucifixion of Jesus.

Those who took part in the parade donned Roman guard costumes. Local children also participated in the annual event.

The Catholic Church's annual Way of the Cross procession took place in the Phoenix Park yesterday.

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin delivered an Easter message and sought an end to "cold-blooded" gangland violence.

"We have to stand up as a community and say to men of violence," he said.
