A POWERLIFTER has appeared in court charged with the alleged assault of a young mother.
Two other men were charged with false imprisonment of the woman.
Jody Curtin (33) of Claughaun Avenue, Garryowen, Limerick, appeared in Limerick District Court before Judge Eugene O'Kelly.
Curtin, who has competed at national powerlifting championships in recent years, has been charged with assault causing harm to the young mother at an address in Limerick city on May 3 last.
He was arrested by gardai in Dublin earlier this week.
After hearing a lengthy bail application, Curtin was denied bail by Judge O'Kelly.
The judge also said he would not impose any reporting restrictions.
Curtin was remanded in custody to appear before the same court again on Tuesday.
Two other men have also appeared in court in connection with the same garda investigation. David Casey (21), of Derryvinna, Clonlara, Co Clare, and Keith Turner McGrath (22) of Landscape House, Clonlara, Co Clare, have both been charged with false imprisonment of the woman at Thomondgate, Limerick city, on May 3 last.
Both men, who were also arrested earlier this week, were granted bail in Limerick District Court.
They will next appear before the same court again on July 3.
