Dublin Port Company has made a €3.4m investment in a new trade car terminal.
The terminal, unveiled by Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe, is at East Wall Road and will cater for 2,500 vehicles being imported and exported at a time, monitored by a security system manned on a daily, year-round basis.
Its opening follows a 13-month development and construction phase. The works include the construction of a new flyover bridge across East Wall Road.
The bridge allows cars to move between the port estate and the new terminal without any interruption to traffic in the surrounding areas. The perimeter of the terminal also incorporates a 'living wall', or vertical facade of green plants, visible from East Wall Road by mid-next year.
