Phone theft boy in custody

A 17-YEAR-OLD boy who stole a woman's mobile phone in Dublin city centre has been remanded in custody ahead of sentencing.

The youth had been charged earlier with theft of an iPhone worth €600 at Samuel Beckett Bridge on October 15. Initially, he had been granted bail.

However, he failed to turn up at his next hearing on October 30 and was remanded in custody following his arrest the next day.

Yesterday he was brought before Judge Michael Walsh at the Children's Court and pleaded guilty to the charge.
