Phone-in show dubbed 'Joe Duffy on drugs'

"Joe Duffy On Drugs". That's what radio insiders are dubbing a new phone-in show to rival RTE's Liveline.

Going head to head with Joe Duffy, the new phone-in will air from 1pm to 3pm on multi-city station Classic Hits 4FM from Monday with host Niall Boylan.

"We are going to do controversial topics on daytime radio which Joe Duffy would never touch," an insider on the 4fm show told the Herald.

The same station was recently rapped by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) for not challenging racist remarks from callers.

Boylan (48) is taking over the afternoon slot previously presented by Dave Harvey to host the new show in addition to his late night programme, which will see him on-air four hours a day on Classic Hits 4FM.

"Niall is planning on doing something totally different during the day. It will be Liveline but with Joe Duffy on drugs," added the source.

Classic Hits 4FM recorded a 24pc growth in daily listenership in this week's JNLR figures.

The move of late-night host Niall Boylan into daytime radio is sure to alarm rivals Adrian Kennedy and Jeremy Dixon who recently departed their night-time FM104 Phone Show for a daytime slot with station 98FM.
