Patient (25) squared up to hospital security

A PATIENT squared up to hospital staff because he wanted to stay there after he had been discharged, a court heard.

Dean Neary (25) was also aggressive to gardai, telling them he wanted to fight them.

Judge David McHugh ordered a probation report and adjourned sentencing.

The defendant, of Morning Star Avenue, Dublin 7, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to threatening and abusive behaviour at the A&E Department of James Connolly Hospital on August 28 last.

Sergeant Maria Callaghan said Neary squared up to hospital security staff and shouted abuse at them.

Defence solicitor Fiona Brennan said Neary had gone to the hospital seeking treatment for a psychiatric problem and he had wanted to remain there.
