Past pupils to get in the swing at school reunion with a twist

A DUBLIN girls' school has organised a reunion with a difference after its golf outing proved a hit with past pupils.

The unusual get-together came about after organisers of the golf and dinner event were inundated with calls from former pupils based all over the world.

Over 80 past pupils of Loreto High School Beaufort in Rathfarnham are set to attend their annual golf and dinner event which will be held next week.

Students

Dublin sisters Judy Murray and Carolanne Roopnarinesingh, who were Beaufort students in the class of 1983 and 1985 respectively, are set to attend the event.

The sisters were on the Beaufort hockey team who won the Kate Russell All Ireland Schools Cup in 1982.

Judy said that women of all ages are attending the event next Friday, from those who have just done their Leaving Cert right up to a lady in her eighties.

"It's great that the event is an annual one, so there is no need to wait five or 10 years for a reunion," she pointed out.

After many years and much talk, a group of former pupils of Loreto High School Beaufort in Rathfarnham got together last year to tee off the LHS Beaufort Past Pupil's Golf Society.

The reunion came about following the inaugural golf outing was held in the Edmondstown Golf Club where almost 50 golfers competed for the Beaufort Past Pupils Golf Perpetual Cup.

For months after the inaugural golf outing, Bronwyn O'Donnell (nee Byrne, class of 1981) and Judy Murray, two of the organisers, were getting phone calls from former pupils who are based all over the world.

"Many of the former Beaufort pupils explained that they were not golfers but that they were very keen to be included at the dinner of the next golfing outing this year," said Bronwyn.

"Indeed, there was so much interest from non-golfers that it was decided to turn this annual golf outing event into mainly an annual past pupils dinner, with a golf outing in the afternoon for those who play," she said.

According to Judy Murray: "If you are a past Loreto Beaufort pupil, or indeed if you know a past pupil, we would love to hear from you as we are keen to continue to build our database of past pupils."

This year's annual Loreto Beaufort past pupils dinner and golf outing will take place on Friday September 17 in Edmondstown Golf Club.

Meal

The golf outing will tee off at 1.30pm (€35), and the annual dinner commences at 8pm, at a cost of €25 for a three-course meal.

The annual past pupils dinner and golf outing is a non-profit event.

The aim is to hold an annual event where all past pupils, young and old, can meet up with former classmates and school friends to renew old acquaintances.

Past pupils who want to participate in either the annual dinner or golf outing can drop an email to Bronwyn O'Donnell at odonnellx@yahoo.com.
