A 23-year-old man has made sure his girlfriend will never forget Ed Sheeran's Dublin gig by proposing to her at the concert.

Owen Byrne and Vickileigh Lawlor (22), both from Gorey, Co Wexford attended the singer's much-anticipated gig at the 3 Arena on Friday night.

But little did Vickileigh know that Owen had a surprise that was going to make the night even more special.

The couple have been dating for two years, and Owen decided to pop the questions during the gig.

"I had an idea that I wanted to do something a bit different, that could be special," Owen said.

"The two of us really love Ed Sheeran as well. I was waiting for a certain song, Show Me Love," he said.

Owen said that he was waiting for a particular part near the end. "I kind of panicked then, because I couldn't get the box open in my pocket.

The couple had been enjoying the concert in the seated section K, he told the Herald.

"I just thought, you know what I am just going to go for it. I stood Vicki up and I said come on and she thought I wanted to go out, so she started walking away.

"Then all the girls behind us were screaming.

"As she turned round, she saw me as I was dropping to the ground and, of course, everyone started roaring he's proposing he's proposing," said Owen, who works for Staffords Bakery in Gorey.

He got down on bended knee and popped the question to his delighted girlfriend, with a lovely white gold diamond ring.

He said that Ed Sheeran, up on the stage, was unaware of what was going on.

"He just kept playing away thankfully, he kept the song going." Owen laughed.

"We are not sure when we will get married. This is the first step now," he said.

His new fiancee has just completed a law degree after four years at college.

After the perfect proposal, the only thing missing for the couple is photos of the happy moment.

"A lot of people behind us took photos," said Owen.

The couple would absolutely love it, if they could get a photo of the proposal from people who were at the concert.

Owen went on a local Waterford radio station to share his story in the hope other concert-goers might have photos. Anyone with snaps is being asked to share them with the Beat 102-103 Facebook or Twitter pages.
