Output soars by 10pc

IRISH industrial output is streaking ahead of the growth rate even in Germany, new figures have revealed.

Industrial production across the euro area rose unexpectedly in August, which was the second surprise rise in factory activity in a row.

The rate of growth was boosted by a 10pc increase in Ireland, compared with 23pc in Estonia and just 7.8pc in Germany, against the same period last year.

And in the past three months, Irish output has jumped by 1.8pc compared with last year.

Across the Eurozone, August data shows production was up 1.2pc from July, the the biggest gain since November 2010.
