Our Katie is riding high as she makes sport rich list

JOCKEY Katie Walsh is on track to become one of sport's most bankable super stars.

The Herald's racing columnist has become the only horse racing star – either male or female– to be ranked in SportsPro's annual 50 Most Marketable Athletes.

Jockey Katie – who was tipped to win the Grand National but came home third – has romped home to number 50 on the list.

Her net worth is up alongside the likes of Rory McIlroy, soccer stars Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo and tennis champ Novak Djokovic.

But down-to- earth Katie – who is a sister of racing legend Ruby – says she won't allow the ranking to change her outlook on life.

"I don't feel like a global star as I am not getting stopped on the street or anything. I am doing something I love, and it's just fantastic to be on this list. I'll wait here by the phone for Lancome to ring me, or maybe Mac," she joked.

At 28, Katie's rising star is attributed to her success on the track and likelihood that she will one day win the Grand National.

"Never has there been a woman more likely to win the National and at 28 Walsh has much of her career ahead," said SportPro's editor-in-chief David Cushnan.
