JUST half of all Irish GPs carry an organ donor card, a new survey has revealed. It found that a total of 52pc of eligible GPs carried an organ donor card.
The survey also identified "a lack of dialogue" in the primary health care setting in Ireland in relation to organ donation.
It comes at a time when the prevalence of end-stage kidney disease in Ireland continues to grow annually.
A survey of 200 GPs working in Ireland revealed that a minority provided donor cards (38pc) or displayed information regarding organ donation (28pc).
Around 88pc of GPs could not remember any instance of a patient asking for counselling regarding organ donation in the past three months, according to the survey published in the latest edition of the Irish Medical Journal.
