Walking alongside him were his thrilled father Oliver, brother Barry, sister Karen and girlfriend Maria McCaffrey.

He had brain surgery and was place on life-support machine.
As Patrick fought for his life in hospital, his brother Barry was charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm.
After appearing before court, Barry was released on bail where he joined his father Oliver at his stricken brother's bedside.
The brothers' father Oliver supported his son in court and movingly told gathered reporters the brothers "have loved each other from when they were kids".
