No deal with consultants

THE HSE says it is running out of patience with hospital consultants in talks over new work practices.

HSE Director of Human Resources Barry O'Brien said consultants had agreed at the Labour Relations Commission two weeks ago to recommend acceptance of proposals on new rosters and cuts in overtime to their members.

But the Irish Medical Organisation has rejected that agreement.

Three dead in Russia crash

RUSSIA'S Defence Ministry says that one of its planes has crashed near its Black Sea base in Ukraine, killing three of its four crewmen.

The navy's Beriyev Be-12 twin-engine turboprop crashed yesterday near its base in Ukraine. The only crew member who survived the crash was hospitalised in serious condition.

A Russian news agency said the crash occurred after one of the plane's engines failed.

Blasphemy probe over text

PAKISTANI police have opened a blasphemy case against a teenage Christian boy accused of sending derogatory texts about Islam to neighbours in Karachi.

A senior police officer said that the 17-year-old is in hiding after neighbours angrily came to his house to inquire about the text messages.

The neighbours ransacked the family's home.
