New Year bells begin to toll ... but bring a brolly tonight

THE fireworks have already started popping Down Under but party-goers here are being advised to bring their brollies tonight if they are ringing in 2015 in the open air.

With a large capacity crowd anticipated for the College Green celebrations - headlined by Kodaline - Met Eireann have said rain will become persistent and heavy as the day goes on.

And although it is due to clear eastwards, a further spell of rain will push-in from the west later in the night. The weather will stay mild however, with lowest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees in a south-westerly breeze.

As our picture shows, New Year celebrations are well underway already in Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
