New mum Jen leaves Republic of Telly for sitcom

Presenter Jennifer Maguire has revealed she will not return for the next season of hit sketch show Republic of Telly.

The broadcaster (33) has been the face of the popular RTE2 show for the past seven years, but Jen told the Herald it's time for her to "move on" from the role.

The breakfast radio star was absent for most of the last series of Republic of Telly, as she gave birth to her first child, daughter Florence, back in March, and now she has confirmed she will be leaving the comedy for good.

"The show is back but I won't be back," she said.

"I've done it for seven years. It was very hard to say it, it was a very tough decision, but I won't be back for this season."

Jen admitted she made the decision to leave in order to focus on new sitcom Bridget and Eamon, which is based on a sketch featured on Republic of Telly.

The new mum confirmed the new comedy, which will also star her co-presenter Bernard O'Shea (inset), is expected to be on screen from early next year.

"Myself, Bernard and Jason Butler, who was our series producer for the last two seasons, are in the process of writing Bridget and Eamon, so we'll be back with that," she explained.

"We're in the process of writing it and it's going into production and it's around the same time as Republic of Telly.

"I couldn't do both, so something had to give."

Opportunity Along with her hectic work schedule, Jen also said she wants to focus on being a mum to her newborn daughter.

"The Republic of Telly will keep going and going and it's been so much fun, but it's time to move on," the Dublin native said.

"We have this opportunity with Bridget and Eamon and you don't often get chances like that, so I have to put my everything into it.

"And I have a child to raise and do a morning breakfast show."
