New 5k race for adrenaline junkies

a NEW endurance race has been announced for fitness buffs who have been training all summer in the glorious weather.

This September, radio station Spin 103.8 is introducing a brand new race that it claims will test all limits for the runners involved.

Yesterday morning on Fully Charged, presenters Ryan and Treacy announced the arrival of Sandstorm, a 5km endurance challenge in the form of an obstacle course race.

The unique event, which Spin 103.8 promises will appeal to all the adrenaline junkies out there, will challenge runners both physically and mentally.

The race is due to take place on Dollymount Strand on Saturday, September 6.

It is the first event of this kind in Ireland, particularly in such an iconic location where runners will test their endurance in the shadows of the Poolbeg Towers.

It will be a tough test for participants, with the race consisting of multiple course challenges such as a tyre mound, a netted pyramid, an eight-foot wall, and a Slip and Slide guaranteeing a hard race to the finish.

Radio station chief executive Jamie Crawford said: "Our research shows that health and fitness is a huge part of the Spin 103.8 audience lifestyle.

"We wanted to create a unique and fun event to encourage community participation while also challenging people to get fit and have fun and so Sandstorm was born."

The race can be entered individually or as part of a group. Spaces are limited and participants are encouraged to register for the endurance race early.

Registration costs just €10 to enter with prizes on the day for fastest finisher and fastest team.

Race check-in begins at 10am on Saturday, September 6, with race start at 12noon. Race goers can register at www.spin1038.com.
