Nestle Ireland has announced it is on target to achieve 100pc cocoa from sustainable sources by the end of next year, becoming the first major confectionery company in Ireland to achieve the milestone.
More than 60pc of cocoa bought by Nestle already comes from certified farms working with the Nestle Cocoa Plan.
Deirdre O'Donoghue, Country Manager of Nestle Ireland, said the move would make a difference to farmers and communties. "For Quality Street, Nestle has started purchasing certified cocoa and these products will be on the shelves in Ireland in time for Christmas this year.
"This means we are on track to reach 100pc by the end of 2015." Nestlé has over 70 brands across six market categories.
