Before yesterday's St Patrick's Day festivities kicked off in Dublin, celebrations were already under way for Nathan Hilton (37) and Emma Dalley (30).
The pair - who are on holidays in Ireland - will return to the UK next week as an engaged couple after a proposal at the Guinness Storehouse.
Nathan popped the question at 10.30am yesterday at the storehouse's Gravity Bar, much to the excitement of staff and onlookers.
This came as a huge surprise to his fiancee, who was already celebrating her 30th birthday as well as St Patrick's Day.
"I was very shocked," she told the Herald.
"It hasn't sunk in yet.
"It was all lovely. The fact that Nathan chose the Gravity Bar, we could see the whole of Dublin.
"I had no idea it was going to happen. We just got to the top and he went down on one knee."
After the good news, they both enjoyed a pint of Guinness while looking over the skyline of Dublin city.
Emma will now be flashing her engagement ring to friends and family when they return home to Nottingham.
"It's beautiful. It's plain, but it's what I would have wanted," she said. "It's already my 30th and my first time in Ireland. I always said I wanted to come.
"We arrived yesterday and are staying until Sunday, so we have a few days left to see the sites too."
Nathan - who is originally from Luton - remained calm until the last minute, despite having to keep the secret of his proposal on the journey to Ireland.
"I was OK until about 10 yards from the top of the storehouse," he said. "I had planned it in advance because of the view from the Gravity Bar, so I got in touch with the Storehouse.
"Because it was her birthday as well, I thought it was a good time to do it.We met on a night out and have been together a year now."
The couple spent the rest of the day telling their loved ones, who were "over the moon", he said.
"We had a couple of pints and walked around the city, we watched some of the parade as well.
"I've been to Ireland before when I visited Cork and Dublin. We have no plans for the rest of the week but we're just going with the flow.
"There are some things on around the city."
A romantic meal and a visit to Temple Bar was on the agenda for the remainder of yesterday for the couple.
