Mystery as walkers find body

A POST mortem exam was being carried out this afternoon on a badly decomposed body found at a Co Donegal beauty spot.

The remains were so badly decomposed, gardai say they are unsure if they are that of a man or a woman.

Two women out for an evening stroll discovered the body at 5pm.

"With the tidal nature of Lough Foyle that body could literally have come from anywhere. It could be someone missing at sea in the Atlantic or someone who has gone into Lough Foyle," a local man said.

A Garda spokesman confirmed: "The remains have been removed from the townland of Ballyrattan, Redcastle, and taken away for a post mortem ."

He said investigating gardai were keeping an open mind on the incident and it could be some time before an identification is made.
