Mum-of-two gets our children into shape

THOUSANDS of children are bucking the TV and computer games trend and signing up for fitness classes.

Dublin mum-of-two Anne-Marie Byrne first set up child fitness classes 10 years ago, when her daughter Alannah was just three.

Along with husband Maurice she created Jymka, which is now taking off at an unprecedented level.

There now has 20 licensed instructors nationwide running their own businesses teaching 'keep fit and have-fun classes'.

The Killiney couple, who also have a son David (7), won a national award in 2012 for best emerging franchise.

Anne-Marie said: "Classes start from just €4 a week, which is less that the price of a burger and chips and a whole lot better for the child.

"We teach children all the fundamentals of fitness through fun gymnastics and sports programmes."

A launch was held yesterday to mark the fact that the Jymka brand is expanding into European and Indian markets.
