Mum-of-5 drove off after car accident

A MOTHER of five who swerved over the middle of the road and crashed into an oncoming vehicle has been put off the road for four years.

Mary Lynch (38) has very little recollection of the incident and believes she had mixed alcohol with tablets.

Judge Ann Ryan banned Lynch from driving for four years and sentenced her to six months in prison, suspended for one year.

Lynch, of Nutgrove Crescent, in Rathfarnham, admitted before Dun Laoghaire District Court to failing to provide a breath specimen to gardai and to hit and run, failing to keep her vehicle at the scene of an accident.

Swerved

Garda Sergeant Peadar McCann said gardai were called to a road traffic accident at Sandycove Road in Sandycove shortly before 8pm on March 30 last.

Sgt McCann said gardai spoke to the victim, who said a Nissan Micra swerved over the middle line in the road.

The sergeant said the motorist took evasive action but the cars collided.

The court heard Lynch left the scene but was stopped close by and admitted she was involved in the accident. Her lawyer said she has had difficulties with alcohol in the past.
