Mourners gather for funeral of stab victim

THE family of stab victim James Joyce (below) gathered in Swords today for his burial.

His six-months-pregnant girlfriend Alison Coogan and his parents led mourners at St Cronan's Church in Brackenstown, Swords.

The funeral Mass took place just yards away from where James (20) was viciously attacked and killed on July 22.

He had attempted to intervene in a row between two men when he was stabbed.

Since the tragedy he has been remembered by his parents Patrick and Rose as a huge Liverpool fan.

He is also survived by his sisters Jackie and Siobhan and brothers Patrick Jr and John Paul.

The devastated family has been holding daily vigils at the scene where the 20-year-old lost his life.

Neighbours and friends have adorned the area with a large number of bouquets and a large Liverpool flag.

The community in St Cronan's Estate was plunged into despair nine days ago when the father-to-be died after an incident close to his home.

Local woman and James's former schoolmate Donna Bell (19) told the Herald that James had been a dear friend to her: "He was one of my mates for years. I'm just devastated."

Daniel McCormack (22), from Kenure Park in Rush, was charged with the manslaughter of James.
