Motorcyclst left fighting for life

A MAN in his 30s is fighting for his life today after his motorbike collided head-on with a car in North Dublin.

The motorcyclist was travelling towards Dublin city centre when he was in collision with the car which was turning right onto Griffith Avenue at Whitehall.

The crash happened shortly after 6.30am today.

Witnesses say the rider, believed to be Eastern European, was thrown over the car and sustained multiple fractures.

Both the car, a silver Peugeot, and the bike, a red Honda, were badly damaged, and debris was scattered across the junction.

Gardai had to direct rush-hour traffic away from the scene as crash investigators worked, causing major tailbacks back as far as the M1.

The elderly driver of the car was not physically injured but is understood to have been badly shaken.

This weekend two people lost their lives on Irish roads, while an Irishwoman died in a crash in Australia.

Emma Healy (24) from Raheen near Kilchreest, Co Galway, died when she lost control of a car on a remote road near Carnarvon in Western Australia.
