Mortgages in deep trouble

Around 37,000 mortgages are more than two years in arrears, new data shows.

Insolvency Service of Ireland boss Lorcan O'Connor said many homeowners in these cases are not engaging with their banks.

He added that 110,000 mortgages are in arrears and an even bigger number than this had got their mortgages restructured.

There about 700,000 mortgages in Ireland. The number in arrears is declining as employment rises again.
