Model Emma escapes to Mexico for getaway

She's busy making her mark on the modelling scene Stateside, but former Miss Ireland Emma Waldron has taken some time out to jet to Mexico for a sunny getaway.

The Kildare model (left) moved to New York to break into the fashion industry almost a year ago and has modelled in New York Fashion Week and for lingerie showcase CurveExpo.

However, the blonde model took a few days off from the catwalk to fly to Mexico City for a few days.

Emma took the time to catch up with her beauty queen pal Anacampa Solis.

"Reunited with Miss Mexico in Mexico city," she wrote on her Instagram account.

Earlier this month Emma, who represented Ireland in the Miss Universe competition in 2010, celebrated her 26th birthday in the Big Apple.

As she was thousands of miles away from her home in Celbridge, the model used Instagram to thank her nearest and dearest for their gifts and messages.

"Thank you for all the birthday wishes thanks for all the surprises I've had today," she said. "The special deliveries... the packages... the hyper 5am Skype calls.

"Honestly, I'm overwhelmed. I feel very loved and appreciated right now."

Young Irish rockers The Strypes have revealed that they will release their new 12-track album, Little Victories, on July 24.

Lead guitarist Josh McClorey (inset) said that fans can expect something different from their latest offering.

"We've grown up, musically," he said. "It's just a progression. It's like comparing what we were listening to when we were 12 and 13 to what we're listening to now."

Some of the world's top performers have danced into the capital this week as the Dublin Dance Festival kicks off today.

Running until Saturday, the dancing extravaganza will begin at the Abbey Theatre, with contemporary dance superstar Meg Stuart on hand to launch the event.
