Missing man found in Aussie stairwell

MISSING Clare man Donal 'Donie' O'Sullivan has been found in a shopping centre stairwell 100m from where he went missing in Sydney five days previously

The 33-year-old was suffering from a broken arm and dehydration and was taken to hospital for treatment. Members of his family who left Ireland to take part in the search were still travelling last night when he was found.

Donal O'Sullivan, from Clooney in Co Clare, was last seen leaving the Tea Gardens Hotel on Bronte Road in Bondi Junction in the city at about 10.30am last Saturday.

More than a hundred people from the local Irish community took part in a search led by Donal's younger brother Johnnie.

A housemate of the brothers, who is also from Ireland, confirmed that the missing man was found on a stairwell at the Eastgate shopping centre at Bondi Junction just yards from where he was last seen.

The Clare man has lived in Sydney for the past two years working as a carpenter and a pipe layer.

His brother Johnnie said Donal's disappearance was "totally out of character. He has never, never, never done anything like this before."

The Department of Foreign Affairs had provided consular assistance to the family through the Consulate General in Sydney.

Police in Sydney are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
