MINISTER Frances Fitzgerald has called on Latvian authorities to investigate a social networking website linked to cyber-bullying in Ireland.
The Minister for Children & Youth Affairs wants the Latvians to probe the lack of safeguards applying to the Ask.fm website.
Bullying on the website has been linked to the deaths of Ciara Pugsley (15) from Co Leitrim and Erin Gallagher (13) from Co Donegal
The website is Latvian based and allows users to create public profiles with their photo and name -- but users can post questions anonymously onto other members' profile pages.
Ms Fitzgerald told the Digital Youth Symposium that in seeking to respond to cyber-bullying, "we should seek to start by addressing bullying in the round".
