Microsoft job losses

Microsoft's plan to cut 7,800 jobs worldwide is expected to have little or no impact on their Irish operation, according to sources close to the company.

The job cuts, announced by Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella (pictured), are to be concentrated principally on phone-related divisions of the company and those associated with Microsoft's acquisition of Nokia.

While some of Microsoft's 1,200 Irish employees are engaged in mobile-related activities, the company's sales, operations and software development is not expected to come in for attention with regard to the cuts, sources said.
