Mechanic dies as car topples on top of him

THE grieving widow of a mechanic who died when a car collapsed on top of him has described him as a "devoted dad and the kindest man I ever knew".

Jim Millane, a 54-year-old father of four daughters, of Corlea, Co Clare, was pronounced dead following the accident at his home near Sixmilebridge, between 8.30am and 9am yesterday.

The mechanic and motor rally enthusiast, pictured inset, died at the scene. It is understood Mr Millane was working under a car which was supported by a jack in his driveway.

His devastated wife Jacqui, who rushed to his aid, said her husband was one of life's true gentlemen. "Jim was very kind to everyone and helped out wherever he could.

"He never said no to anyone and you could go the length and breadth of the country and no one would ever have a bad word to say to him."
