Marty says 'I'm next' for ice-bucket plunge

Marty Whelan has agreed to join in the latest celebrity craze - the ice-bucket
challenge.

He was nominated by Daithi O Se after the Kerryman cooled down live on stage at the Rose of Tralee last night with a bucket of freezing cold water (inset).

Now Winning Streak presenter Marty is out to prove he's also game for a laugh as he helps raise money for a good cause, namely the Motor Neuron Disease charity - and said he'd do it in Colm Murray's memory.

He was put on the spot by RTE's Kathryn Thomas on the John Murray show. Daithi was nominated by his mother-in-law and he in turn nominated three former Rose of Tralee presenters, namely Marty, Ray D'Arcy and Ryan Tubridy.

Speaking about the challenge, Marty said: "I'm on a dry run today for Winning Streak so how could I possibly be pelted [with ice]?"

Undeterred, Kathryn suggested the challenge take place this afternoon once the dry run was over but Marty quipped: "My make-up will run!"

He then said that "of course" he would do it.

"I don't mind. I do a lot of charity work.

"If this highlights something, like Motor Neuron, which took one of our colleagues recently, as you know, God rest Colm, and it makes a difference, of course you'll do anything."
