Mansfield Jr faces prison for driving while disqualified

KATY French's ex-boyfriend is facing jail next year after being caught driving while banned, it has emerged.

Jim Mansfield Jr was stopped by gardai three weeks ago while behind the wheel of a 4x4 on the Naas Road in Co Kildare.

The property developer (44), who was sober when stopped, was told by gardai to produce his licence and insurance at his local station.

But Mansfield -- the son of businessman Jim Mansfield -- doesn't have either of the documents as he is currently disqualified from driving.

Mansfield Jr had been caught drunk behind the wheel twice within a two-week period in 2009. It is believed he is now facing jail when he appears in court early in the New Year for not producing a licence and insurance.

Gardai first caught Mansfield on September 19 last year when he was stopped in his father's Rolls-Royce Phantom near the Citywest Hotel.

Dublin District Court heard gardai pulled him over when they spotted the expensive vehicle being driven erratically.

When officers spoke to him, he admitted he was as "drunk as a f***ing fool".

He was arrested and a breath test showed he was double the legal alcohol limit.

He was subsequently convicted and banned from driving for three years.

Less than two weeks after that offence, gardai pulled him over again for drink driving after he left a pub in Ballsbridge in Dublin.

They had seen his silver Porsche "swerving all over the road" and when they spoke to him his speech was slurred.

He was later given a further two-year driving ban and a €1,000 fine.

Mansfield previously hit the headlines when it emerged shortly after 24-year-old Katy French's death from cocaine in 2007 that he had been her on-off lover.
