Gardai are investigating yet another car hijacking in the capital after a 20-year-old man was targeted over the weekend.

The incident unfolded at around 10pm on Saturday when the victim was driving his silver Volkswagen Bora out of the Whitestown Park estate in Blanchardstown.

As the driver was leaving the estate, he was flagged down by two men who he thought were looking for directions.

When the driver pulled in, one of the men opened the driver’s door and demanded that he get out while the other man jumped into the passenger seat.

RECOVERED

The young man who lives in the estate was then forced out of the car which sped away from the area.

There have been no arrests so far in the case and the car has not been recovered.

The incident is being investigated by Blanchardstown gardai.

When contacted by the Herald, the victim did not wish to speak about his ordeal.

Gardai believe the criminals involved in the crime may be members of the Travelling community and are linked to other similar crimes.

The incident is not linked to a robbery at Northside Shopping Centre in Coolock last Friday afternoon in which a 33-year-old woman was allegedly hijacked by a man armed with a syringe who drove off in her car after threatening her.

He was later arrested.
