Man stable after brutal hotel attack

A young man suffered serious head injuries after he was brutally assaulted by several people at a Dublin hotel.

Christopher Mellon, who is in his early 20s and from Ashtown, west Dublin, is being treated at Beaumont Hospital after the attack, which happened at 6am on Saturday at the Travelodge Hotel in Swords.

It is understood that Mr Mellon was set upon by a number of people in the grounds of the hotel after he had earlier enjoyed a night out at the nearby Wright Venue nightclub.

After the attack, Mr Mellon was treated in A&E for a broken nose.

His condition deteriorated during the week and he was re-admitted to Beaumont Hospital on Tuesday morning.

Tests were carried out on him and it was found he had serious head injuries.

A source said: "There were grave concerns about this man's condition on Tuesday but his condition improved yesterday and he is now in a stable condition."
