Man seriously ill after city smash

"A LOUD bang, and then screams -- I thought it was a gun," is how one witness described a horror Dublin crash today.

A man is seriously ill in hospital after being struck by this car early this morning. The incident happened at Parnell Rd at the junction of Clogher Rd in Crumlin shortly before 2am.

The injured man was taken to St James Hospital by ambulance.

Garda forensic experts were called to the scene, which was sealed off today. Traffic diversions were put in place as their investigation continued.

An eye witness living on the street told the Herald that after returning home from a night out, she awoke to a loud bang and screaming from the street at approximately 1.30am.

"I thought it was a gun shot that had gone off and I stayed inside just in case."I was terrified " she added.
