Man sent for trial over college burglary

A MAN has been sent for trial charged with burgling a south Dublin college.

Joseph Bates (36) had a book of evidence served on him at Dublin District Court.

Mr Bates, with an address at Kildare Road, Crumlin, is charged with burglary at the Milltown Institute in Ranelagh on July 21, 2013.

The Institute is a Jesuit-run third-level college for the study of Theology and other subjects.

Judge Michael Walsh gave the defendant the formal notice that he must provide within 14 days to the prosecution details of any alibi on which he intends to rely. He then returned him for trial to the next sittings of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

The accused was sent forward on existing bail terms.

Judge Walsh also granted free legal aid, to cover a solicitor and one barrister.
