Man made threat to garda in court foyer

A YOUNG man became violent and threatened to headbutt a garda in the Criminal Courts of Justice.

Jonathan Rooney (20) was convicted of a public order offence over the incident. Judge James Faughnan also jailed him for three months for other offences.

Rooney, of The Kiln, Railway Street, Dublin 1, had pleaded not guilty to causing a breach of the peace in the incident last July 10.

Dublin District Court heard the accused was in the courts complex when a garda approached him to charge him.

He became extremely aggressive and told the garda he was going to headbutt him and get him "when he was on his own".

He also called for help.

The accused denied the charge, alleging he was "manhandled".
