A man has been arrested in relation to the stabbing of a teenager near Dundrum Town Centre late on Tuesday night.
The suspect, in his late teens, was picked up by gardai in the south-Dublin area this morning in connection with the investigation into the attack on 19-year-old Stephen Bingham from Hillview Grove in Ballinteer.
He had to flee to the safety of Dundrum Town Centre after being stabbed a number of times on the Sandyford Road at 11.15pm.
He was then helped by staff of the cinema and the centre.
An ambulance and gardai were called and Mr Bingham was taken to St Vincent's Hospital with several knife wounds.
Although he suffered multiple injuries, none of them are believed to be life-threatening.
The arrested man is being held for questioning today at Blackrock garda station under Section 4 of the criminal justice act.
Mr Bingham remains in St Vincent's Hospital where he is receiving treatment for the wounds, which are mainly to his back.
A spokesperson for Dundrum Town Centre told the Herald that the victim ran there after the attack.
"He ran into the cinema complex looking for safety, shelter and assistance, and that was all provided for him," he added.
Stephen Bingham's family said they did not know why he was attacked. "We hear he is going to be ok," he added.
Gardai have appealed for anyone with information to contact Dundrum Garda Station (01 6665600) or the garda confidential line on 1800 666111.
