Man held in murder probe

A 25-YEAR-OLD man who allegedly knifed another man to death on his mother's doorstep has been remanded in custody for two weeks.

Shane Millea (25) is accused of the fatal stabbing of Paul Harris (33).

The defendant, of The Pottery, Maynooth Road in Celbridge, Co Kildare, was charged with the murder of Mr Harris outside the victim's mother's home in Cannonbrook Park in Lucan on December 2 last.

A judge at Cloverhill District Court remanded Millea in custody for two weeks to appear again on December 22.



DiCaprio slash woman jailed

A woman who pleaded no contest to slashing Leonardo DiCaprio's face with a glass at a party five years ago was jailed for two years.

Aretha Wilson (40) was sentenced at Los Angeles Superior Court after entering her plea to assault with a deadly weapon last month.

The Inception star, who needed surgery after the attack, did not attend the sentencing.

Wilson has been jailed in Los Angeles since July.



Taxi hijacked at knifepoint

A MAN who carjacked a taxi at knifepoint will be sentenced later at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Brian McHugh (25) had recently been released on a suspended portion of a laundrette robbery sentence when he carjacked a Toyota Avensis.

McHugh, of Croaghpatrick Road, Cabra, then wrote the car off by crashing it into a wall after a brief high speed car chase with gardai.

He pleaded guilty to robbery of the taxi and €50 cash on the Ballymun Road on January 26, 2010.

The matter was adjourned till early next year, pending a probation and welfare report.



Man trampled by elephants

A herd of elephants trampled a fruit picker to death in a remote Malaysian jungle in the first such case in years.

Muhamad Adnan Iberahim (26) died instantly in the attack in the northern Kelantan state when five men were surprised by a herd of nine elephants.

The remaining men managed to escape unharmed.
