Man faces trial for rape of boy

A man is due to go on trial later this week charged with the sexual abuse and neglect and ill-treatment of a young boy almost six years ago.

The 52-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to 47 charges of sexually assaulting the child and one charge of the wilful neglect or ill-treatment of the same boy on dates between April 11, 2001 and June 23, 2004.

The charges the man denied included anal rape and sexual assault.

Mr Justice Paul Carney empanelled a jury of six women and six men and told them to return on Thursday.

Halloween riot case on hold

THE case of a 15-year-old boy charged with Halloween night rioting in Dublin was adjourned yesterday.

The boy, who was 14 at the time, has pleaded not guilty at Dublin Children's Court to taking part in violent disorder at Dorset Street, on October 31, 2008.

However, the defence sought a dismissal saying a delay in bringing the prosecution against the boy, who was charged in September last year, was prejudicial.

The case was adjourned until Thursday.

A TEENAGE burglar was remanded on continuing bail yesterday pending sentence over a spate of burglaries at a shopping centre.

The 16-year-old boy had pleaded guilty at the Children's Court to the burglaries in the Omni Shopping Centre, in Santry, in north Dublin, on January 7 last year, where he stole cash and vouchers worth €1,150 from three staff areas.

The case was adjourned to allow the Probation Service further time to work with him.
