Man couriered cocaine here

A SOUTH American who couriered cocaine to Ireland because he and his family were under threat from a money lender has been jailed for four and a half years.

Leroy Sturge (49), originally from Guyana, has been in custody since his arrest.

He pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of the drugs, worth €220,131, at Dublin Airport on February 7, 2011.

Garda Edel O'Sullivan said that Sturge had a previous conviction for importation of Class A drugs into Gatwick Airport, London, on November 19, 2004.
