Man charged with breaking into van for û400 satnav

A DUBLIN man is accused of breaking into a van and stealing a satnav device yards from his own home.

Anthony Byrne (26) is charged with criminal damage and theft in the incident in the north inner city.

Judge James McDonnell adjourned the case for two weeks when Byrne appeared in Dublin District Court.

The defendant, of Mountjoy Street, is accused of carrying out the offences at nearby Blessington Street.

The court heard it was alleged the accused smashed the van's window, causing €150 worth of damage, before stealing the satnav, which was worth €400. The judge remarked that it must have been "top of the range".
