Man accused of having drugs and ammunition

A MAN has appeared in court charged with possession of large quantities of cannabis, cannabis resin and ecstasy tablets as well as illegally-held ammunition at his home.

Alan Brennan (34) allegedly had 40 rounds of Browning and Sellier & Bellot ammunition following a search of his home by gardai.

He is facing trial by judge and jury in the Circuit Court after the DPP ruled that the matters were too serious for the District Court.

The accused, with an address at Dromheath Grove, Mulhuddart, appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged with possession of cannabis, cannabis resin and mdma as well as having the drugs for sale or supply.

The alleged offences, contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Act, occurred at his home in Mulhuddart last February 13.

Mr Brennan is further accused of possession of 40 rounds of 9mm ammunition without a licence at his home on the same date.

A state solicitor said the DPP has directed trial on indictment in the Circuit Court.

Gda Padraic Brennan said he had no objection to bail on the new charges, and Judge David McHugh extended it.

The judge adjourned the matter to next month for the service of the book of evidence.

Defence solicitor Brendan Ahern was assigned on free legal aid.

Mr Brennan has not yet indicated how he is pleading.
