Man (39) faces murder charge

A 39-year-old man yesterday appeared in court charged with the murder of a Polish national.

At Ennis District Court, Michael Maughan, of Stone Court, Ennis. was charged with the murder of 31-year old Piotr Nowakowski, at Sandfield Mews, Ennis, on Tuesday.

Mr Nowakowski died in an ambulance en route to hospital after sustaining two stab wounds in the alleged attack.

Maughan's younger brother, Darren Maughan (21), also of Stone Court, Ennis, also appeared charged with assaulting Declan O'Dea.

The judge remanded the two in custody to appear before Ennis District Court.

Michael French is making his comeback in EastEnders as womaniser David Wicks almost 20 years after he first arrived in Albert Square.

The actor returns later this year and show bosses are promising sparks will fly.

He was last seen in the BBC soap last January when he briefly returned for the last scenes of his on-screen mother Pat Butcher, played by Pam St Clement, and rekindled his romance with Carol Jackson (Lindsey Coulson).

Edward Snowden may be settling in for a long stay in Russia, his lawyer has indicated.

The American secrets whistleblower plans to start studying the Russian language and culture and Russia, for the time being, is his final destination.

Anatoly Kucherena's comments came amid Russian reports that Snowden is about to receive documents that would allow him to leave the airport where he's been marooned for over a month.

PASSPORT PROBE WOMAN IS FREED

GARDAI have released without charge a woman detained in an investigation into passport services.

The woman in her 30s was arrested on July 23 as part of an investigation into irregularities with the issue of passports.

A man in his 30s was arrested in Skerries on July 23 and was also released without charge.

A file is being prepared for the DPP.
