Man (33) in court over Mari arson

A MAN was due to appear in court today charged in connection with an arson attack in Co Roscommon which killed five-year-old Mari Connolly.

The suspect was rearrested for questioning by gardai on Tuesday. He had previously been held last week but was later released without charge.

He will be brought before Ballinasloe District Court this morning.

Gardai are continuing to question a woman in her 50s at Boyle Garda Station about allegedly withholding information about the crime. A woman in her early 30s was released without charge on Sunday.

Mari's father, Richard Connolly, was staying at the house in Boyle, Co Roscommon when the fire broke out.

Last week, he told of his efforts to save his three children from the fire while their mother, Teresa, was in hospital giving birth to twins. The couple were no longer in a relationship.
