Luxury cars wrecked in gas blast

Four cars and a garage were seriously damaged by a gas explosion in South Dublin.

A blaze broke out outside a property in leafy Sydney Park Parade at around 8.30pm on Wednesday.

Gardai from Irishtown Garda Station and a fire crew quickly arrived on the scene.

Gardai are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the fire. The Herald understands that An Bord Gais is also carrying out an investigation.

A Mercedes, BMW and Jaguar were seriously damaged in the blaze.

Nobody was injured in the explosion and gardai do not suspect foul play.

One eye-witness said: "The whole garage was gutted. This is a very quiet road where people get along with their business."
