Love/Hate stars miss the start of the new series

Love/Hate may have captivated the nation last night but it's stars weren't sitting in watching the new episode.

Aoibhinn McGinnity, who plays Nidge's wife Trish in the top drama is currently in America for the screening of her new movie, Poison Pen.

"I'm in New York for the first one so I'll miss it," she told the Diary.

"I can't wait to get it on again, I haven't seen any of it so it will be my first time as well," she revealed.

The Monaghan beauty is enjoying her first trip to New York before starting rehearsals for her role as Jovie in Elf the Musical, starting in November.

"I don't care about sight-seeing really, I just want to be there," she said.

"I don't want to plan anything. I have a few meetings but I just want to soak up the atmosphere," she added.

Meanwhile, her fellow Love/Hate star Laurence Kinlan - who plays Elmo in the show - also missed out on watching the series five opener on Sunday.

The top actor was busy hanging out with Ed Sheeran at his gig at the 3Arena.

Kinlan (inset) tweeted a picture with The Don't! singer, who was performing his third of four sold-out shows at the venue on Sunday, saying: "Missing Love/Hate tonight to see this man @edsheeran legend!"

Ed spoke of how he is a huge fan of the gangland drama during an appearance on The Late Late Show on Friday night.

He told Ryan Tubridy that he got hooked while touring with Taylor Swift in the US.

Ed said that a lot of her crew were Irish and they were always watching the show backstage.

"The only Irish thing I've been hooked on properly is Love/Hate.

"Like, that's a serious addiction," he revealed.
